Visual Quality Standard for Applied Window Film

The Visual Quality Standard for Applied Window Film outlines the criteria for assessing the quality of window film installations. Here are some key points:

1. Inspection Distance: The glass with applied film should be viewed at right angles from the room side, at a distance of not less than 6 feet (2 meters). Viewing should be done in natural daylight, not direct sunlight.

2. Adhesive Cure Time: Installed film has a discrete time for full adhesion, often referred to as the "adhesive cure time." This time varies based on the thickness of the film and any metallic coatings.

3. Visual Defects: During the visual cure period, effects such as water bubbles, water distortion, and water haze are not considered defects. The installation is deemed acceptable if dirt particles, hair, fibers, adhesive gels, fingerprints, air bubbles, water haze, scores, scratches, film distortion, creases, edge lift, nicks, and tears are unobtrusive.

4. Edge Gaps: Edge gaps will normally be 1/32-1/16 inch (1-4mm) to allow for the water used in installation to be squeegeed out. This ensures that film edges are not raised by contact with the frame margin.

5. Splicing: Splicing of films is necessary when larger panels of glass are treated. The splice line should be straight and parallel to one edge of the frame margin.
